The Tennessee Nation Blog

The Tennessee Nation is not a new concept. We were an independent nation for forty-three days in 1861 – the period between our secession from the United States and our admission into the Confederate States of America.

The abuses and excesses of the current Columbian Empire are cause enough for Tennesseans to exercise their rights as “free and independent people” and cast off the chains of slavery which have so subtly been forged on us. I call it the Columbian Empire because it is most certainly not American. The term American in all its connotations is antithetical to the actions and intentions of the tyrants in the District of Columbia. The district of Columbia is the viper pit from which the Columbian Empire springs.

This blog is to emphasize the legitimate reasons for a free Tennessee Nation.

This December marks one hundred fifty years since South Carolina led the way out of the Union by seceding.  Most people (especially politicians) will laugh about the possibility of secession today.  We have been taught in government schools and in private and Christian schools as well that we live in “one nation under God, indivisible.”  A socialist creed, but not the attitude of the Founding Fathers and certainly never Christian!

In April 1861 Tennessee Governor Isham G. Harris called a special session of the Legislature to respond to Lincoln’s unconstitutional call for troops to invade the States which had legally seceded.  On 25 April, he delivered a message which has these lines:

"we are… dissolving our connection with the Federal Union. As established by our fathers, that Union no longer exists. However much we may have cherished it heretofore, no intelligent and candid man can deny that it has ceased to be a blessing, and has become a curse; that it is no longer a high and sacred means of protection, but an engine of oppression; that is has ceased to be a bond of brotherhood, and has become a hateful connection between communities at war."

"The Federal Union of the States, thus practically dissolved, can never be restored; or if ever thus restored, it must, by the very act, cease to be a Union of free and independent States, such as our fathers established. It will become a consolidated, centralized Government, without liberty or equality, in which some will reign and others serve--the few tyrannize, and the many suffer."

Governor Harris correctly understood that should the Yankee North prevail in the coming war, we would no longer have the Union which the Founding Fathers had worked so hard to establish.

As school-children, we are taught to reflect on the Republic and Constitution delivered to us from 1787.  As adults, we should recognize that a Union which must be imposed by force is no union at all.

Under Muslim law, a wife is not allowed to leave a marriage.  The husband may humiliate her, beat her, and even kill her, but she has no rights.  Under Christian law, there are limits to authority in the home, and avenues for escape.  Which is that type of government which you will want ruling us in the twenty-first century?

As for me, give me Christianity and a Free Tennessee.

Here is an example of nullification and civil resistance from Tennessee’s own history.  This account is taken from A History of Tennessee, an elementary level public school textbook first published in 1899.

“In 1797 it was charged against William Blount in the United State Senate that he had entered into a conspiracy to take Louisiana and Florida away from Spain and transfer them to England, as he thought England would be a better neighbor than Spain.

On this charge William Blount was expelled from the United States Senate July 8, 1797.  A United States officer was sent to Knoxville to arrest him and take him to Philadelphia to be tried for high crimes.  But the whole affair was as bad a failure as the attempt to try Sevier for treason.  Blount would not go; the officer alone could not take him by force, and when he summoned men to help him they very politely refused to do so, and told him that Blount had done nothing wrong and could not be carried out of Tennessee for trial.

After investigation the United States Senate decided that they had no case against Blount.  He was immediately elected to the state senate and made speaker of that body…”

The State of Tennessee offered no assistance to this action of the central government.  The US Senate had to have someone sent from Philadelphia to take Blount prisoner.  This is a legitimate action of nullification; not by action, but by inaction.

This account also show the effectiveness of general public resistance to an act of the central government.  Notice that the “United States officer” attempted to deputize several Knoxville residents, but they simply declined to cooperate.  This is civil resistance at its finest.

The citizens and the officials of the State of Tennessee knew that the charges against Blount were bogus, thus they acted accordingly.  Innocence does not have to be proven in court, only guilt.

When the Feds (agents of the Empire) come calling on some hapless individual, the State and local authorities should have the same conviction to resistance that these men of 1797 had.

Then we would have a Free Tennessee.

To me, ethics as a word and concept has always meant having the ability to tell between right and wrong.  Christians have an advantage in making ethical judgments because the Bible is reliable as a resource on what is right and wrong.  That is until now.

The Southern Baptist Convention has been struggling for years as its leadership sees the number of consistent and committed adherents shrink.  The reason for an evangelical denomination’s decline is generally found in its relaxed (make that dwindling) loyalty to the Truth of God’s Word.

Richard Land, president of their Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, will speak this Sunday to the Southern Baptist’s Hispanic Fellowship.  He will be promoting another immigration reform program which magically turns the lawbreakers into law-abiders.

Robert Parham, executive director of the moderate Baptist Center for Ethics in Nashville agrees with him and says that there are Christians (count me as one) who want to penalize illegals because they perceive them to be lawbreakers.  Doesn’t illegal = lawbreaker?  Aren’t those two terms equivalent?

Apparently ethics no longer has anything to do with breaking the law!  At least not for Baptists Richard Land and Robert Parham.

Just as disturbing as his spiritual blindness toward breaking the law, is the apparent reason for Land’s support of the illegals … they make good conservatives!

According to Land, Hispanics “are hard-wired to be social conservatives unless we drive them away. They are family oriented, religiously oriented and pro-marriage, pro-life … tailor-made to be social conservatives.”  They will make good Republicans.  The stupid party certainly needs all the help it can get.

Sorry, but I just can’t overcome the Christian and Biblical commitment to true ethics.

May God deliver us from such as are attempting to mold Baptist ethics.

Great comments from Pastor Steve Wilkins of Monroe, Louisiana.

People often ask, “Do you think the Lord is going to judge America?” And the answer is, “Do you mean, will He continue to judge America?” Truth is, God has been judging America for quite some time. And one of the forms His judgment has taken is economic. Here are some amazing (and distressing) facts about the U.S. economy (from Blacklisted News) that reveal the judgment of the Lord:

– It is being projected that the U.S. government will have a budget deficit of approximately 1.6 trillion dollars in 2010....CONTINUE.

Helen Thomas is an 89-year-old journalist who for decades served as a UPI reporter and had a seat of honor in the White House newsroom because of her long tenure.  She most recently was employed by the Hearst syndicate as a columnist.  She is the lady in red who would end every presidential press conference by standing and saying, “Thank you, Mr. President.” She was such a fixture in Washington that movie makers would ask her to play herself on film.

She resigned (aka was fired) for having an opinion and expressing it.  Unfortunately for her it was a politically incorrect opinion!  She learned late that "Freedom of the Press" does not necessarily mean freedom for the Press.

She had been asked by Rabbi David Nesenoff what she thought about Israel, at the Jewish American Heritage Month reception held at the White House at the end of last month, and was caught on film saying, “Tell them [Jews] to get the hell out of Palestine” and that they should “go home” to Poland, Germany, America and elsewhere.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs criticized her statements, saying, “I think those remarks were offensive and reprehensible.”  The Associated Press quoted the White House Correspondents Association in a rare statement which described her comments as “indefensible.”

Regardless of your opinion of Israel / Palestine / Arabs / occupation and all the possible inter-related issues, the Empire’s Thought Police should not have absolute sway over journalists.

It is unfortunate that Thomas’ career has ended because of a comment which should have been hers to make freely.  Sometimes the First Amendment just doesn’t apply.  That’s the way it is in the New World of the Columbian Empire.

As for me, give me a free and independent Tennessee.

A headline from Sunday’s Nashville Tennessean, “2010 bank closures now total 81.” It wasn’t front page news, just an AP wire “filler” article from Washington. Click here for the article

In case you are having a problem with the math, that’s nearly 4 bank closures every week this year.  This time it was a 59 branch regional bank based in Lincoln, Nebraska and two small community banks: one in Minnesota, the other in Illinois.  It is interesting that these closings by the Feds always take place on a Friday so that the news either never makes it to the public or is buried in the expanded Sunday editions.

The article notes that the rate of bank failures in 2010 is double that of last year.  But we continue to hear the “Part line” from the Empire that “all is well,” “the recession is over.”  When companies and individuals cannot repay loans on such a massive scale that banks have to shut their doors, something is still drastically wrong with the economy.  The spokesmen for Empire are lying!

When the Feds have to work so hard to cover their backsides, you should know that their houses of cards (credit cards) are falling around them.

Give me an honest and Free Tennessee.

Who allowed the Left to rename Criminal Profiling as Racial Profiling?  Replacing the word criminal with racial obviously blurs the intent of the profile and gives the impression that policing agencies are only intending to harass certain racial groups rather than arrest criminals.

A year or two ago, the Left attempted to rename suicide bombers, but the public just didn’t swallow it.  The moniker remains.  Yet any attempt to apprehend those engaged in illegal activity by developing an easy-to-understand description has become racial profiling because a racial designation is sometimes used.

Policemen are aware that certain actions while driving will indicate that the driver may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  They are “profiled” and stopped.  After a cursory conversation with the driver and possibly a field sobriety test the officer either lets them continue or arrests them for DUI.  Profiling just possibly saved the life of someone else on the road.  No one complains.

Arizona is being accused of racism because they are utilizing racial profiling.  These accusations are supposed to make us cringe in horror at Arizona’s insensitivity.   GO ARIZONA!!

It might surprise some to know that the great bulk of illegal immigrants crossing the border from Mexico are Mexicans!  WOW!  The key word here is illegal!  Mexicans can be asked to prove that they are not illegally in the US.  If they provide the proper information, they are released.  Sounds just like the traffic stop of someone who was perhaps a little sleepy, but not under the influence.  GO ARIZONA!!

The only way for a people to have liberty is to live with consistent constitutional government.  When the government and its leaders become arbitrary in their enforcement of law, no one is safe...no one is free.

Tennessee needs to join Arizona, so we too can experience the fruit of liberty.

Give me a Free Tennessee.

In a recent blog (Wednesday, 28 April 2010 - The Priority of Being Southern), I related the story of a Marine recruiter in Nashville rejecting a young man "because he had a Confederate Battle Flag tattooed on his shoulder in an area that would be completely covered by a t-shirt, and certainly by his uniform."

The Marine Corps seems has responded to its own political correctness by “clarifying” it position.  According to Staff Sgt. Andrew Hurt, the public affairs representative for Marine Corps Recruiting Station Nashville, "We're not saying that a Confederate flag tattoo is racist, but it could potentially be. So we call that an 'exception-to-policy' tattoo. 'Exception-to-policy' tattoos have to be reviewed by a general."

He continued, "It's the same as if someone came in and said they were on heroin. Hard-drug waivers would have to be approved high up the chain as well. There's a myriad of [commanding general] waivers."

Now THAT certainly clarifies the policy – a Battle Flag tattoo ranks right up there with heroin addiction in getting a waiver.  I didn’t realize that the USMC was allowing their recruiters to actively enlist addicts, but there you have it…straight from the horse's jackasse's mouth.

I don’t think they are going to change my attitude toward the depths of depravity to which the Empire has and will sink to accomplish its goals for world-wide conquest.

I just want a free Tennessee. Free from all this mental atrophy.

We must realign out thinking, we must think locally.  As long as we view national elections as the priority, we have lost our freedom.  This is the fatal flaw in the Tea Party movement – they think by electing the right Congressman, Senator, or President that everything will be all right.  WRONG!

When the U.S. Constitution was written and ratified back in 1787, representation in the US House of Representatives was approximately 1 for every 48,000 people.  Today the ratio is one US Rep. to 703,000 people and growing!  Tennessee has a ratio of 1 to 64,000, in its own State House of Representatives.  Better ratio, better representation!

But even closer to home, the local Sheriff is the one who can prevent federal and state authorities from harassing the county’s citizens.  Those authorities are to report to the local Sheriff before they serve warrants on county residents.  They are to submit to his authority.  The local Sheriff has the recognized authority to “interpose” and protect the local citizens.

The local County Board or City Council is the most important legislative authority for the private citizen.  Just a few weeks ago, a local board in California outlawed fast food restaurants from using toys as a promotional item.  I consider that particular action a bit “juvenile,” but the point is that the local Boards and Councils DO have the authority to protect the local citizens from any threat – perceived or real.

We need to elect our best men to these local positions.  Ignore national elections; don’t waste a dime or an hour of time on those elections. THINK LOCALLY !

The solution to tyranny is interposition.

Interposition as a doctrine has long legal and religious roots in American history. Interposition is a FIRST PRINCIPLE.  Interposition is the concept of that “magistrate” which is closer to the people “positions” himself between the people and the unruly magistrate which is further away from the people (i.e. a county sheriff prevents a state or federal authority from arresting a citizen).

The doctrine of interposition was advocated by Thomas Jefferson and others as a necessary aspect of federalism, whereby a state could prevent the invasion of the reserved powers of state and people by some department of the federal government. John C. Calhoun of South Carolina on the eve of the War for Southern Independence reasserted interposition in the doctrine of nullification.  Nullification and “States rights” are no more and no less than applications of interposition.

Interposition was the solution advanced by Vindiciae Contra Tyrranos.

But let us suppose, that in this our ship of state, the pilot is drunk, most of his associates are asleep, or after large and unreasonable tippling together, they regard their eminent danger in approaching a rock with idle and negligent jollity; the ship in the mean season instead of following her right course, that might serve for the best advantage of the owners’ profit, is ready rather to split herself. What should then a mater’s mate, or some other under offer do, who is vigilant and careful to perform his duty? Shall it be thought sufficient for him to pinch or punch them who are asleep, without daring in the meantime to put his helping hand to preserve the vessel which runs on a course to destruction, lest he should be thought to intermeddle with that which he has no authority nor warrant to do?...Shall he consent himself to admonish his associates of their duty, who to their utmost ability endeavour the contrary?

The lesson is simple: lesser magistrates have the duty and responsibility to protect those citizens under their charge – even to the point of armed conflict.  Individuals on the other hand may resist, but cannot take up arms.  Militias by definition consist of every able-bodied and armed man in the locale.  Militia units organized outside the purview of a local official are a violation of legitimate Law.  The lesser magistrates have the duty, the responsibility and the biblical authority to act!

May Tennessee be freed by responsible magistrates!

In The Tennessee Nation blog on Monday (10 May), I reviewed some of the qualities of a tyrant.
Among them were:

  • A tyrant “lops off those ears which grow higher than the rest of the corn, especially where virtue makes them most conspicuously eminent”
  • A tyrant “hates and suspects discreet and wise men, and fears no opposition more than virtue, …esteeming his own security to consist principally in a general corruption of all estates”

Just a few hours later, I was introduced to this video.

The occasion of Emperor Obama’s comments was the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.  The tickets to this “black tie” event are considered a valuable possession in the District.  Only the elite of government, commerce, and media are able to land an invite.

In front of the “best” that money can buy in Washington, the Emperor ridiculed the fine lawmakers and Governor of Arizona for attempting to enforce laws which the good, the bad, and the ugly of the Columbian Empire ignore...and they laughed!

This is not just a swipe at Obama; it could have just as easily been our previous Emperor, King George, the Second.  So the charge is laid against both Republicans and Democrats; against the current black and the previous white man; against the current Muslim and the former faux-christian occupants of the White House.

They would easily “lop off” the reputations of those who have greater virtue by making jest of them.  A tyrant hates nothing greater than true virtue.  Arizonans have it!

One of our greatest problems in reviewing the politics of today is that we have no legitimate reference for what makes a good or bad ruler.  We have forgotten how to judge.

In the Third section of the treatise Vindiciae Contra Tyrranos, the author defines a tyrant by sixteen separate qualities.  They are timeless in their definition of a tyrant and can certainly give us a better evaluation of our current situation.

Here is a partial list of the qualities of a tyrant…in the words of a sixteenth century Frenchman:

  • A tyrant “lops off those ears which grow higher than the rest of the corn, especially where virtue makes them most conspicuously eminent”
  • A tyrant “gives out reports of intended conspiracies against himself, that he might have some colourable pretext to cut them off”
  • A tyrant “advances above and in opposition to the ancient and worthy nobility, mean and unworthy persons; to the end that these base fellows, being absolutely his creatures, might applaud and apply themselves to the fulfilling of all his loose and unruly desires.”
  • A tyrant “hates and suspects discreet and wise men, and fears no opposition more than virtue, …esteeming his own security to consist principally in a general corruption of all estates”
  • A tyrant “nourishes and feeds factions and dissentions amongst his subjects,… that he may the easier vanquish the remainder, advantaging himself by this division, like those dishonest surgeons who lengthen out their cures.
  • A tyrant “fills his garrisons with strange soldiers, builds citadels against his subjects, disarms the people, throws down their forts, makes himself formidable with guards of strangers, or men only fit for pillage and spoil, gives pensions out of the public treasury to spies and calumniating informers, dispersed through all cities and provinces.
  • A tyrant “have such numberless guards about them to drive off throngs of people from approaching them, yet cannot all those numbers secure them from doubts, jealousies and distrusts, which continually afflict and terrify their timorous consciences”
  • A tyrant “erects idle and needless trophies to continually employ his tributaries, that they might not have leisure to think on other things, …therefore he always prepares for, or threatens war.”
  • A tyrant “leaves no design unattempted by which he may fleece his subjects of their substance, and turn it to his proper benefit, that being continually troubled in gaining means to live, they may have no leisure, no hope, how to regain their liberty.”
  • A tyrant “desires much to be esteemed just and loyal in some affairs, purposely to deceive and betray more easily in matters of greater consequence.”

Our task is simple – apply the qualities which mark a tyrant to the leadership of today.  But we must take the time to seriously evaluate, to judge our leaders.  As we do so, it will be impossible not to recognize that the Empire’s leadership in the current and recent administrations have many of the marks of tyranny.

Our political leaders today have press agents and “spin doctors” to make every decision and every action appear to be for the benefit of the citizens.  Because so much effort is made to deceive, I include a final word from Vindiciae:

To speak in a word, that which the true king is, the tyrant would seem to be, and knowing that men are wonderfully attracted with, and enamoured of virtue, he endeavours with much subtlety to make his vices appear yet masked with some shadow of virtue: but let him counterfeit never so cunningly, still the fox will be known by his tail: and although he fawn and flatter like a spaniel, yet his snarling and grinning will ever betray his currish kind.

May God grant us the ability to judge.

Important in the context of the legality of the American War for Independence was the influence of the treatise entitled, Vindiciae Contra Tyrranos.  It was first published in France in 1579 and translated into English in 1689. The English title is A Defense of Liberty Against Tyrants.  It was held by John Adams to be one of the most influential books in America on the eve of the Revolution. Probably second only to the bible itself.

Modern educators reveal much of their rewriting of the history of the American Revolution in that the role of Vindiciae is rarely mentioned, whereas Thomas Paine’s works always are.  The reason is obvious; Vindiciae is thoroughly and biblically Christian while Paine is anti-Christian and a part of the intellectual environment of the French Revolution and of the modern university.

Thomas Paine arrived in America in December 1774.  The First Continental Congress had already assembled in Philadelphia in September 1774. Tthe resistance had begun in North Carolina on 16 May 1771.  Men had already died fighting for liberty.  Although he enjoyed a popularity with several other writers of the time, selling thousands of copies of Common Sense, his influence in the colonies was marginal at best.  Paine’s hopes and dreams were realized in France, not the English colonies!

Vindiciae Contra Tyrranos held, among other things, to these doctrines:

First, Any ruler who commands anything contrary to the law of God thereby forfeits his realm.

Second, Rebellion is refusal to obey God, for we ought to obey God rather than man. To obey the ruler when he commands what is against God’s law is thus truly rebellion.

Third, Since God’s law is the fundamental law and the only true source of law, and neither king nor subject is exempt from it, war is sometimes required in order to defend God’s law against the ruler.

Fourth, Legal rebellion requires the leadership of lesser magistrates to oppose, in the name of the law, the royal dissolution or contempt of law.

These are First Principles which the patriots of 1776 understood.  We will need to understand them and apply them in our lives if we hope to regain our liberty.

Give me a Tennessee Nation!

“First blood” in the American War for Independence was 16 May 1771, on the Alamance, a small stream in North Carolina.  The colonists were resisting British tyranny in the form of unjust taxation.

Those involved in the struggle for Independence which we call the American Revolution were by no means perfect men, nor was their cause at all times waged in conformity to principle. But the principles were nonetheless real and on the whole served to determine the course of the conflict.

Principles drove the patriots to fight more than any specific abuse of power by the Crown.  Today, we have forgotten what the First Principles were.  The patriots were opposed to the deliberate disruption of law and order which later characterized France, and, on the other hand, they were equally hostile to blind obedience.

Blind obedience is the reaction expected in this age.  Public schools are built around the concept of conformity and to the ideal of multiculturalism.  Any question of authority or difference of opinion is met with severe repercussions. It has become the same in today’s business and political spheres.

Blind obedience is asserted in such comments as:

  • The idea of secession was settled in 1861.
  • Good citizens don’t question police requests/orders.
  • Go along and you’ll get along.
  • When the U.S. Supreme Court speaks, it’s the law!

Following World War II, Chief Justice Vinson asserted, “Nothing is more certain in modern society than the principle that there are no absolutes.”  His statement was meant as an argument for and a defense of the Supreme Court’s assertion of absolutism and a denial of any appeal beyond itself.  Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy, as well as every President since, agreed.

Eisenhower: "Every step we take toward making the State the caretaker of our lives, by that much we move toward making the State our master.” Reread that last line and ponder just how much we have moved toward making the USA into the Columbian Empire since the 1950's.

Kennedy: “The scarlet thread running thru the thoughts and actions of people all over the world is the delegation of great problems to the all-absorbing leviathan—the state … Every time that we try to lift a problem to the government, to the same extent we are sacrificing the liberties of the people.” The flip side of the same coin is that as we take on a caretaker/master, we become a people without liberty.

May God grant us a Free Tennessee.

Today, I will yield the bulk of comments to a friend from Nashville.  His story reveals how the Empire is willing to be so open in its disregard of any Southern tradition or symbol, while still happy to use young Southerners as cannon-fodder for its military adventurism.

I have always been proud of my time spent as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. I served in the Republic of Vietnam in 1969 and, while I was certainly no "John Wayne" type, I tried to do my duty to the best of my ability and I did bring all of my platoon out of Vietnam alive.

This past summer, the son of a frend of mine was very 'gung ho' about joining the Marines and asked my opinion, which I tried to give as honestly as possible, warts and all. I don't know if my discussions had any influence on him, but he enlisted, completed all of the pre-enlistment tests and physical exams and went to all of the pre-enlistment meetings. To say the least, he was very excited about serving his country in the Corps.

Shortly before he left Nashville for boot camp, he was told he could not serve his country because he had a Confederate Battle Flag tattooed on his shoulder in an area that would be completely covered by a t-shirt, and certainly by his uniform.

When informed of this, I went to the local recruiting station that had processed this young man to see if I were getting the entire story. The recruiter, a staff sergeant, told me, "Yes, sir. The Marine Corps considers the Confederate Flag a 'hate symbol,' but if the young man in question had a state or U.S. flag tattoo, that would be acceptable."

I informed the young sergeant that my family had defended the State of Tennessee (also his home state) against a sadistic invasion under that flag and to call our sacred flag of honour a 'hate symbol was an insult to ALL southerners, but especially to those southereners who had risked or even given their lives in service to the Marine Corps. Southerners had served at Belleau Woods, at Taraw and Iwo Jima, at Inchon and the Chosin Reservoir, and at Khe Sahn and Hue City, but now we are no longer wanted in the politically-correct don't-offend-any-minorities military? (This was just prior to the Fort Hood massacre)

He was polite, even sympathetic, but said the flag policy was a Marine Corps policy from Headquarters Marine Corps and not a local decision. After informing the sergeant that it seemed to me that our military was building a mercenary force of illegal aliens while rejecting native-born Americans in order to have a ready force to turn, without question, on American citizens, I asked the sergeant if he had taken out the trash yet.

He replied that he hadn't.

I then said, "Please add these to the day's garbage," and returned my lieutenant's bars, my gold and silver Marine Corps emblem from my dress blues, my shooting badges and my Vietnam ribbons.

I, like many of you, have always been told, "Once a Marine, always a Marine," and "There are no ex-Marines, only former Marines," but for me that is no longer true.

I was born in the South. I was raised here. I raised my family in the South and some day, God-willing, I hope to be buried in the native soil of our Southern homeland. I have always considered myself a Southerner first, and will remain so, despite any other organization that I may temporarily join.

I will never make a critical remark about a veteran, from any branch of the service, but from now on, I will do everything in my power to discourage any Southern young man, or lady, from becoming a future veteran. I am now an ex-Marine.

Gene Andrews ex-Marine, 1st Lieutenant 3rd Marine division Vietnam

Thank you, Gene, for being a legitimate patriot...one who will stand up and defend his family, his home, and his community.  Thank you for having the priority of being Southern!

May God grant us more such men.  We will then proudly have a free Tennessee Nation.

Illegal immigration into these united States has become pandemic.  The recent administrations (both Republican and Democratic) in Washington have chosen to turn a blind eye toward the situation, so localities are beginning to take their own action.

This past week, Arizona’s governor Jan Brewer signed into law a bill that supporters said would take handcuffs off police in dealing with illegal immigration in Arizona.  Arizona, by the way, has become a virtual boulevard for human and drug smuggling from Mexico.  There are an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants in Arizona alone.

In reaction, Arizona congressman Raul Grijalva called on businesses and convention groups to boycott Arizona as a meeting spot.  Raul is running for re-election in Arizona and called for a boycott of his own State?

The Associated Press reported that the American Immigration Lawyers Association announced that it would move its September conference for Scottsdale to another state.  How about moving it to Mexico, boys?  But then again, some of them might not be able to get back across the border legally.

The significant word in dealing with the situation is … illegal.  That means NOT LEGAL.  The Arizona law is directed at people who are BREAKING THE LAW!!  How in the world can that fact not be a factor in people’s thinking.

Kuddos to the Arizona legislature and to their governor Jan Brewer.  May the people of Arizona rise up and call her blessed!  May the illegals quit their whining, rise up, and go home.

When the Empire refuses to act, the sovereign States need to.  The Empire is corrupt, it is bankrupt, it is over-extended militarily, and it is slowly grinding to a halt.  Our elected officials at the state and local levels must begin to exercise their responsibility of interposition.

Interposition is simply the concept of—that “magistrate” which is closer to the people “positions” himself between the people and the unruly magistrate which is further away from the people.  The doctrine of interposition was advocated by Thomas Jefferson and other patriots as a necessary aspect of federalism, whereby a state could prevent the invasion of the reserved powers of state and people by some department of the federal government.  It also applies in the case of a local official preventing a state official from abusing a citizen’s personal or property rights.

When State and local officials actually begin to exercise their legitimate authority, then we will truly have a Free Tennessee.

I once knew a man who had a pet Chihuahua.  He would always melt in laughter when telling how that little dog would charge the neighbor’s Doberman.  The huge Doberman would charge right back, but as it got to within four or five feet of the Chihuahua would roll over on its back and piss on itself.  The Chihuahua would leave the "field of battle" as the victor, never having had to even nip his antagonist.

Yesterday, the Associated Press reported just such an incident with the Virginia-based Kappa Alpha Order.  It seems that the national executive director of the fraternity has issued a directive to local chapters that they are banned from wearing Confederate uniforms to "Old South" parties and parades.  Revealing a total lack of leadership and integrity, KA’s national executive director, Larry Wiese, rolled over and pissed on himself.

It appears that some seventy alumnae of a racially segregated (black only) sorority were offended by gray uniforms and hooped skirts.  The Chihuahua charged!

Kappa Alpha was founded in 1865 at Washington & Lee University.  The "Lee" part of the university’s name is in honour of Robert E. Lee who revitalized the school after the War for Southern Independence.  And the fraternity refers to General Lee as its "spiritual founder."  Robert E. Lee is the ultimate example of leadership, of integrity, and of Christian faith and virtue!

Southern school…the most respected and revered southern General…seems appropriate to occasionally dress in antebellum attire!

National executive director Weise wrote in his memo:

In today's climate, the Order can ill afford to offend our host institutions and fend off significant negative national press and remain effective at our core mission, which is to aid young men in becoming better community leaders and citizens...

Yes, a most important lesson for future community leaders and citizens to learn is how to be stricken with terror when complaints are made.  Yes, a most important lesson of leadership is knowing how to sacrifice principle on the altar of political-correctnesss.  Yes, a most important lesson for future community leaders and citizens to learn is how to roll over and piss on yourself when confronted with an attack by mental midgets.  The Chihuahua is victorious!

May God save the South from people like Larry Weise.

At a Town Hall meeting last evening for the Southern National Congress, one gentleman bemoaned the absence of some people he had invited.  He could not understand their lack of motivation to change the political climate under which they suffer.

His is a good question. What is our motivation for activity in various areas of life?  I have worked in various political campaigns and have attended various political workshops.  The list of issues about which people will get upset continues to grow: abortion, prayer in school, crime, immigration, taxes, war, regulations, etc., etc., and etc.  But all politicians know that the one issue which moves people is their own financial well-being.

The “pocket-book” issues are what elect or defeat any candidate.  People generally relate most every issue back to their own personal financial well-being.  The bailout of the Big Bankers has been an issue only when it relates to our personal pocket-book.  Bernie Madoff may have bilked a bunch of people of millions and millions, but he didn’t reach me, so he’s not all that bad a guy.

But there are a few who reach deeper in their psyche for motivation.  I was just looking at some Easter pictures of my granddaughters who live in another State.  It occurred to me that my Blog, my work with home education, my work with the local Chamber of Commerce, and my various political endeavours are about them.

We no longer live in the free society in which I grew up.  There were no sobriety check-points, no metal detectors at the airport, and no antagonistic reactions to speaking out for Christ when I was young.  The Gideons came into the classroom to hand out little New Testaments.  Air travel did not require multiple forms of photo identification, nor removal of shoes, nail clippers, and hair spray.  We were helped by “peace” officers, not harassed by “law enforcement.”

As a Christian, I will always first and foremost serve Christ, but those four little girls deserve to live in a world that has passed away.  I will devote all my life, my talent, and my resources so that they might be able to raise their children in a Free Tennessee.

What is your motivation?  Is it your pocket-book?  Or are you motivated by something deeper?

On Thursday, 15 April, a Wisconsin U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb, issued an opinion that the law which requires the President to declare a National Day of Prayer is unconstitutional.

Judge Babs wrote that the National Day of Prayer "goes beyond mere 'acknowledgment' of religion because its sole purpose is to encourage all citizens to engage in prayer, an inherently religious exercise that serves no secular function…In this instance, the government has taken sides on a matter that must be left to individual conscience. . .”

I find it interesting (almost humorous) that this opinion was issued on the same day that all within the Empire are expected to bow and “render unto Caesar” the firstfruits of their labour.

The Scripture asks, “Why do the heathen rage?” Standing and shouting into the face of God that He is irrelevant in any “secular function” is an extreme exercise in futility.  When the leadership of a nation denies the Creator, why should we expect His blessing on any of our enterprise?

In yesterday’s worship, the congregation of which I am a member sang the three hundred year old hymn, “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty.” The second verse reads:

Praise to the Lord, who over all things so wondrously reigneth,
Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen how thy desires ever have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

It amazes me that so many cannot see the hand of God in the blessings bestowed upon these united States over the years.  But the general blessing has ceased, there only remains specific blessing for His people. Of the seven verses of the hymn, our hymnal prints only five, omitting the fifth and sixth. I would enjoy singing the sixth verse.

Praise to the Lord, who, when darkness of sin is abounding,
Who, when the godless do triumph, all virtue confounding,
Sheddeth His light, chaseth the horrors of night,
Saints with His mercy surrounding.

We find ourselves with a President who will recognize Moslem holidays, but refuse to issue a call to prayer to the Creator. And Judges back him up. And legislators regularly ignor wisdom and Biblical Law. The Empire is dead.

May Tennesseans affirm their faith in the words of the fourth verse.

Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
If with His love He befriend thee.

May God save Tennessee and grant us a free Tennessee Nation.
